Mayhem – “Wolf’s Lair Abyss”
Euronymous who? Yeah, so what if he’s not in it? Well, it might matter to some, but once you put this disc in, you will hear that Mayhem are back. With Necrobuther and Maniac back in the league, and of course Hellhammer, who can say it isn’t Mayhem? The thing I didn’t like at first was that Attila wasn’t on vocals anymore. His diversity added so much more to the Mayhem sound in my opinion. But from what I’ve read, Hellhammer was looking to go back to the rawer and crazier sound of Mayhem from the olden days. Which in my opinion, they succeeded very well. We have 5 songs of intense utter blasphemy. The song, “Ancient Skin” has some of the most hate filled vocals I’ve heard in a long time. I can just picture Maniac cutting/burning himself while recording his vocals on the record. So how’s the music? Can you not see who I’m reviewing? It’s Mayhem! They’re back and will be here long after the trends die. What else to say?
