Moonlyght – “Progressive Darkness”
Like a lot of bands from Quebec (the land of Voivod, mind you) Moonlyght is not ordinary and stands out based on pure ambition. Any band that wants to do this much with their music is to be applauded. What kind of music is this, then? Well, they play progressive dark metal (duh?!). Coming across as a blend of European symphonic, melodic black metal, prog metal, power metal and that special Quebec quality, Moonlyght should be heard by an audience that does not care for categories. The vocals are black, growled and clean. There are seven songs, all of which are over seven minutes long, with the exception a short one lasting over four and a half minutes. This takes a bit to understand, but it’s worth it, that is if you like to enjoy music as music, not a lame excuse to get your “anger” out. Oh, yeah, how gutsy is this band? They actually have a song with an accordion in it!! And, yes, it works, ok?
