Sargatanas – “The Enlightment”
If you are familiar with Samael’s, “Worship Him” or with the wonderful early 80’s feel of Pentacle (big time Hellhammer-influenced death metal), then you might enjoy Sargatanas. Early Sodom/Sepultura type production is also part of this sound’s foundation. The question is this: is this by accident, or un-purpose? We’ll see in the coming period… I, for one, enjoy this type of stuff, because underneath the raw, unproduced production, there is, in every song, a real aspect of individuality to each song. As the simple guitar “solo” on song #5, “Ritual of the Advent” demonstrates, Eddie Van Halen is no influence here. The cover of Possessed’s “Satan’s Curse” is heavier on the bottom end than the original version. Overall, this is pretty raw death metal from Mexico. Beware though, it’s not Emperor or Morbid Angel, more like children of Hellhammer.
